Dr B.B .Ohri was the first head of the department ,he was an excellent surgeon and was known as Surgeon General. He was a stickler for punctuality.
Doyens in the field of surgery specially Dr .S.D. Sharma , Dr. C.P.Tiwari , Dr. T. D .Singh ,Dr. V.K Agrawal , Dr. K.C .Sharma , Dr. L.S .Sharma have all been the HOD of surgery . Dr. C.P Tiwari , Dr. V.K Agrawal , Dr. K.C Sharma and Dr. L.S .Sharma also became dean of MGM medical college Indore . Dr. V.K Agrawal went on to become the director of medical education of M.P state.
Dr S.K Shukla is the present Head of the department a dynamic oncosurgeon who fearlessly tackles difficult cases . he has received a number of awards and hs organised a number of conferences , namely golden jubilee celebrations of M.G.M medical college , and annual conference of the international college of surgeons - Indian section and SAARC countries.
Prof Dr P.K Bannerjee has also been trained in the U.K and has special interest in gall bladder surgery .he has organised the conference of the M.P state chapter of A.S.I in 1993
Prof Dr R.V. Paliwal is a methodical teacher and a very efficient general surgeon.
prof Dr B.R. Parekh heads the pediatric surgery unit and has organized the M.P state chapter ASI conference 1994and pediatric surgery update for general surgeons .he ahs the unique distinction of operating for the first time in the world a case of incomplete congenital twining.
Dr D K Jain is associate prof he is the president of the M.P medical teacher association. Indore branch.he has organised the Indo -British conferrence on hepatobilliary diseases.
Dr R.k Mathur is also associate professor with special interest in urology and laparoscopic surgery . he is doing pioneering work in management of urethral stricture . he he has organised the advanced laparoscopic surgery workshop which was conducted by Prof Kano of Japan.
Dr J Tiwari the newly promoted associate prof. with special intest on co-surgery. Dr Vijay Yadav , Dr Shipra Sharma and Dr D Paramhans are assistant professors in the department.they are also conducting regular teaching classes for both under and postgraduate students along with professors and associate professors. Dr. Brijesh Lohoti is pediatricsurgean & Dr. Arvind sangwal is a neclosurgeon . they have both been appointed an assistant Prof. and contract basis.
Dr Dilip Acharya is a senior medical officer , has special interest in onco and reconstructive surgery . he has organised the M.P state chapter ASI conference and ASI west zone CME he is member of the ASI governing council.
Dr N Joshi and Dr A S Rana are medical officers in the department ,Dr Joshi is incharge of family planning and Dr Rana has gone for training in endosurgery .The department has started speciality clinics in breast ,neurosurgery and thoracic surgery this year.
The department has 36 postgraduate students , they have various research projects as their thesis topics.the postgraduates are regularly participating in conferences with paper presentations and surgical quiz.
The department is equipped with a computer with internet, a well furnished library , and an exhaustive p g teaching programme the facilities of which are being taken by students and teaching staff . |
